West Virginia women upset No. 24 Oklahoma 78-69
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Breana McDonald scored a career-high 19 points to lead West Virginia to a 78-69 upset victory over No. 24 Oklahoma on Sunday.
McDonald eclipsed her previous career-best of 16 at the 14:47 mark of the second half.
Averee Fields had 12 points and 12 rebounds for West Virginia (13-8, 3-6 Big 12). McDonald was 7 of 8 from the free throw line.
West Virginia held a 32-23 lead at halftime behind 14 points from McDonald. The Mountaineers held Oklahoma to 8-of-24 shooting (33 percent) in the opening 20 minutes.
The Mountaineers had their lead cut to 51-48 midway through the second half, but answered with a 10-2 run and held on down the stretch.
Peyton Little led Oklahoma (13-7, 7-2) with 15 points. Gabbi Ortiz added 11 points and Kaylon Williams had 10.
Oklahoma had won eight straight before losing to No. 14 Texas 84-81 in double overtime on Thursday.
