White leads Illinois women past No. 17 Iowa, 73-61

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Chatrice White scored 22 points, Brittany Carter added 19 and Illinois upset No. 17 Iowa 73-61 on Thursday night.

Kyley Simmons finished with 16 points and Jacqui Grant grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds for Illinois (11-4, 2-1 Big Ten), which forced Iowa into a season-high 22 turnovers and held the Hawkeyes more than 20 points below their season average (81.5).

Iowa (11-3, 2-1) led 35-21 late in the first, but Illinois scored the final nine points to make it 35-30 at halftime.

The Illini opened the second with a 10-4 run, taking their first lead, 40-39, on a 3 by Simmons with 16:17 to play.

A layup by Bethany Doolittle pushed the Iowa lead to 53-47 with 10 minutes to play but Grant and Simmons hit back-to-back 3's, sparking a 23-5 run which made it 70-58 with 38 seconds left.

Melissa Dixon hit eight 3-pointers and scored 24 for Iowa.
