NASCAR announces 2000 race schedule

Associated Press

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The 2000 Winston Cup schedule, announced Tuesday by NASCAR, is a virtual carbon copy of this year's 34-race slate.

Mike Helton, senior vice president and CEO of NASCAR, said the only change involves the spring race at Bristol Motor Speedway flip-flopping weekends with Texas Motor Speedway.

"We have spent the last several years building the NASCAR Winston Cup Series schedule into an extremely strong lineup," Helton said. "The schedule includes NASCAR's typical assortment of superspeedway, short track and road course excitement."

The schedule includes points events at 21 tracks from coast to coast. Two non-points events -- the Bud Shootout at Daytona International Speedway and The Winston at Lowe's Motor Speedway -- will be run again in addition to the 34 championship races.

The season will begin at Daytona Beach with the Daytona 500 on Feb. 20 and conclude on Nov. 19 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
