| | INDIANAPOLIS -- Patrick Carpentier broke his left wrist in a
fall at his Las Vegas home Monday night and will miss the next two
CART races, including this weekend's Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Team Player's announced Tuesday that Carpentier will be replaced
by Memo Gidley.
Carpentier, a 28-year-old native of Canada, was injured when he
lost his balance while carrying a heavy suitcase up some stairs and
then tried to break his fall. Team Player's said he was to undergo
surgery Tuesday night.
"I'm extremely disappointed to find myself on the sidelines
after starting the season on such a strong note with a fifth-place
finish at Homestead," Carpentier said in a statement.
Gidley, from Mexico, made a combined 10 starts for Walker Racing
and Payton Coyne Racing last year in his rookie CART season.
After Long Beach, CART's next events are the Rio 200 in Brazil
on April 30, and the Firestone Firehawk 500 in Japan on May 13. | |
