BIG BEAR CITY, Calif. -- Allegations that former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson raped a 50-year-old woman will be submitted to prosecutors on Monday to determine if charges will be filed.
"We don't make recommendations, we just submit the facts," Sheriff's Department Sgt. Frank Gonzales said. "It's up to them."
Tyson has stated that he is innocent.
The woman alleges that she was sexually assaulted by Tyson on July 16 at a home he rented while training in this mountain resort 70 miles east of Los Angeles. He has since left to train in Phoenix, Ariz.
Sheriff's investigators interviewed three members of Tyson's entourage, the last on Friday. They wanted to talk to Tyson but his attorney declined to make the boxer available, Gonzales said.
The attorney, Darrow Soll, said Saturday that he had conducted his own investigation and made those results available to the district attorney's office. He declined to detail the results.
"We think they will objectively look at the facts and reach the same conclusion we have, which is there is no criminal culpability on Mr. Tyson's part," Soll said.
Tyson, 35, served more than three years in an Indiana prison after being convicted in 1992 of rape and other charges. He has been training for a Sept. 8 fight with Danish boxer Brian Nielsen in Copenhagen.
