CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Dave Dickenson threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns and also caught a scoring pass to lead the Calgary Stampede to a 44-22 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in the season opener for both teams. Dickenson, who completed 15-of-24 passes, connected with Aubrey Cummings on a 25-yard TD pass to give Calgary a 14-10 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter. Following an interception, receiver Allen Pitts found Dickenson from 25 yards out for a 21-10 advantage 42 seconds before halftime. Calgary put away the game in the third quarter on Marc Boerigter's 20-yard TD catch and a 55-yard interception return by Shonte Peoples, opening a 38-13 lead. The defense picked off six passes and recorded a safety. Greg Frers opened the scoring late in the first quarter with his 55-yard interception return. Dan Crowley was just 9-of-25 for 89 yards and five interceptions for Edmonton, which got TDs from Troy Mills and Terry Vaughn.
