Tritt to close out ESPN Great Outdoor Games
ESPN Outdoors Communications — May 15, 2002

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) announced Wednesday that Nashville singing/songwriter sensation Travis Tritt will bring his "Down the Road I Go" tour to Lake Placid's Olympic Center on July 14. Tritt will take the stage at 7:30 pm, after the third annual ESPN Great Outdoor Games wrap up at various Lake Placid venues. All seats for the Travis Tritt concert are $30 each.

Tritt's music is very distinct. He creates an unusual sound by blending soulful gospel singing -- which he learned while playing at local churches -- with some classic country, influenced by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, and then adding the sounds of Southern rockers such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, the blues of Muddy Waters and the R&B of Ray Charles. Tritt's masterful skill of combining numerous musical genres has earned him two Grammy awards and three Country Music Awards as well as the distinct honor of being given the Country Music Association Horizon Award.

Tritt burst upon the country music scene in 1989, when his first single "Country Club" caught the attention of country music legend Charlie Daniels. Daniels liked the song so much that he booked Tritt to be the opening act for the Charlie Daniels Band. That exposure led to Tritt earning the 1990 Billboard New Artist of the Year Award and a nomination for the 1990 Academy of Country Music New Male Vocalist of the Year.

"He has it all, great singer and instrumentalist ... he possesses something so many of the young artists of his generation don't have ... he knows how to entertain people," says Daniels.

After taking a self-imposed two-year hiatus to spend time with his family, Tritt returned to the country music scene in 2001, earning three Billboard Music Awards nominations. He also was a Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall of Fame Award Recipient. Tritt is currently nominated for six Academy of Country Music awards, including two for the coveted Album of the Year award as both artist and producer."

Tritt's songs have earned 13 No. 1 singles, 23 Top 10 singles and he has sold over 18 million albums worldwide. He has written or co-written 43 of the songs on his last seven albums, all while starring or featured in 18 movies and television shows.

Tickets for the Travis Tritt "Down the Road I Go" tour Lake Placid show go on sale May 17 at 8:30 am at the Olympic Center Box Office at (518) 523-3330 or online at www.orda.org. For more information, log on to www.travis-tritt.com.
