WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Tom Jenkins shot his second straight 4-under 68 on Friday for a share of the second-round lead with Leonard Thompson in the AT&T Canada Senior Open.

 Jack Nicklaus
Jack Nicklaus finished his second round five shots off the lead at 3-under 141.
Jenkins birdied the par-5 18th hole to match Thompson at 8-under 136 on the St. Charles Country Club course. Thompson followed his opening 67 with a 69.

"I would call my score a minor miracle," Jenkins said. "I got everything I could possible get out of that golf course. I could not have scored one shot lower out there."

Thundershowers and heavy wind early in the day caused a delay of more than two hours.

"It was a different golf course than the one we played on Thursday," Thompson said. "I didn't know what to expect when I hit the ball and when it landed on the greens. It was just a long, hard day."

Hugh Baiocchi was a stroke back after a 71.

"Anything around 70 was a great score out there," Baiocchi said. "The wind was extremely tricky. Just in our threesome alone, we were over the back of the greens several times, and well short just as often. It made for some very difficult play."

Bruce Fleisher and DeWitt Weaver were two strokes back at 138 after 69s. Fleisher finished with a double-bogey.

In the lead at 8-under on the final tee box, Fleisher pushed his drive into the right trees and was forced to hit his second shot left-handed. He advanced the ball just 15 yards. After a solid third shot, he sailed his fourth over the back of the green, flubbed a chip and then rolled his second chip within 2 feet.

"That was my Waterloo," Fleisher said. "It was a good day spoiled by a bad last shot. I can laugh about it now, but I'm crying inside."

Jack Nicklaus stared the day 4-under, but made bogeys on the second and third holes. He finally made a 6-footer for birdie on the 14th to move to 3-under, but bogeyed the 16th.

On No. 18, Nicklaus flipped a wedge within 8 feet and then delighted the gallery by making the birdie for a 73 and a 141 total.
