The LPGA isn't the only tour playing in Canada this week.

The Senior Tour crosses the border for the Canada Senior Open, a rare four-round event for the players.

Jim Ahern returns to defend his one and only title on the Senior Tour, and it came in spectacular fashion.

Ahern, who never finished higher than ninth in a PGA Tour event, was a Monday qualifier for last year's tournament, just his seventh on the Senior Tour. He shot four rounds in the 60s and found himself one stroke down to Hale Irwin on the 72nd hole, but he drained a downhill, 30-footer for birdie to force a playoff.

On the second hole of sudden death, Ahern made a 5-footer for par to clinch the title.

Ahern was just the seventh qualifier to win on the Senior Tour and the first since Dana Quigley in 1997 at the Long Island Classic.

Exempt status on the Senior Tour has kept Ahern out of qualifiers this year, but it hasn't helped him contend. He has just one top-10 finish -- a tie for eighth at the PGA Seniors' Championship. In his last three starts, he's a combined 26-over par and stands 46th on the money list.

His chief rival from last year's event, Irwin, is bypassing this year's edition. A tie for second last week at the Burnet Classic kept him second on the money list behind Bruce Fleisher, who is in the Canada field.

Fleisher, who is seeking his fifth win of the year, is one of just four players in the top 10 on the money list playing the event. Others in the field include Ed Dougherty, who held off Irwin last week in Minnesota, and Jack Nicklaus.

Next week, the tour heads to Park City for the Utah Showdown.
