Two players to watch every week on the Senior Tour are the man who won last week and the defending champion. In the case of the Bruno's Memorial Classic, those are the same player: Larry Nelson.

Nelson, coming off his sixth Senior Tour victory last week at the Las Vegas Senior Classic, is the defending champion in Birmingham. He finished at 11-under last year to hold off Dana Quigley by one shot and Gil Morgan by two.

Nelson birdied three of the final seven holes to hold off Quigley, who had a chance to catch Nelson on the 18th hole but missed a 10-foot birdie putt.

Nelson will have his work cut out for him if he hopes to defend his title. Virtually all of the top players on the Senior Tour are in the field, as well as all eight former champions of the event.

Leading the list is Bruce Fleisher, a two-time winner this season and leader on the money list. In fact, 23 of the top 25 players on the money list are in the field. The only exceptions are No. 12 Vicente Fernandez and No. 16 Jim Colbert.

The Senior Tour's top rookies are all playing as well. Tom Watson, Lanny Wadkins, Tom Kite and Andy North will all tee it up at Greystone Golf Club, one of the longest courses on the Senior Tour schedule.

The tour continues its southern swing in the coming weeks, heading to North Carolina next week for the Home Depot Invitational, followed by a stop in Georgia for the Nationwide Championship.
