After a six-week hiatus to spend time with her family, defending champion Juli Inkster returns to action this week at the Welch's/Circle K Championship.

Inkster earned the first of her five victories during a memorable 1999 season with a one-shot win over Dottie Pepper.

Inkster also won two majors last year and achieved a career Grand Slam with her win at the LPGA Championship. She concluded the season by qualifying for induction into the Hall of Fame.

"Last season was a wonderful and busy year for both me and my family," Inkster said. "It was a year to remember, to say the least."

Inkster played in the season-opening Office Depot and Subaru Memorial in January in Florida before her extended vacation.

"I enjoyed the last few weeks at home with my family and now I feel rested and ready to go," Inkster said.

The veteran will be joined in the 144-player field by 10 of the last 17 Welch's/Circle winners. The list includes two-time winners Donna Andrews (1994, 1997) and Chris Johnson (1984, 1991), along with Hall of Famer Amy Alcott (1985), Laura Davies (1988), Colleen Walker (1990), Brandie Burton (1992), Liselotte Neumann (1996) and Helen Alfredsson (1998).

Three-time LPGA Player of the Year Annika Sorenstam and Hall of Famer Patty Sheehan are also in the field. Sorenstam is coming off a playoff loss last week at the Takefuji Classic.

Karrie Webb, who won her fourth straight title last week in Hawaii, is skipping this tournament. The LPGA Tour record for consecutive wins in events entered is five, set by Nancy Lopez in 1978.
