Karrie Webb has dominated the LPGA Tour this season. Webb has dominated Wachesaw Plantation East Golf Club the past three years. But she won't be a factor this week at the Kathy Ireland Greens.com LPGA Classic.

Webb won this event in 1997 and 1998 and came up one stroke short last year to Rachel Hetherington. But she isn't entered this week, when the former City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic takes on a new sponsor and host.

Webb is joined on the sidelines by Annika Sorenstam and Laura Davies, leaving the tournament without the top-three money-winners on the LPGA Tour this season.

But there are still plenty of talented players in the field. Juli Inkster, Pat Hurst, Nancy Scranton and Betsy King -- all tournament winners this year -- are in the field. So are Hetherington, Dottie Pepper, Lorie Kane, Michelle McGann and Janice Moodie.

King, the leader in career earnings on the LPGA Tour, picked up her second win of 2000 last week in a three-woman playoff at the Corning Classic. A birdie on the second hole gave her the title over Kelli Kuehne and Vicki Goetze-Ackerman.

Last year's event was a nightmare from a weather standpoint. The second and third rounds were washed out by heavy rain, gusting winds and unplayable conditions. Hetherington got into the clubhouse Sunday at 7-under, then waited to see if her score would stand.

Leta Lindley had a chance, needing a par on the 18th hole to tie or a birdie to win. But she missed the fairway with her drive, landed her approach short of the green, chipped within 6 feet, but missed the par putt. That left her at 6-under, tied with Webb and Helen Alfredsson for second.

Next week, the LPGA Tour heads to New York for the Wegmans Rochester International, then it's across the ocean to France for the Evian Masters which features the largest purse of the season at $1.8 million. Then it's back to the States for the Women's U.S. Open.
