Last year, Maria Hjorth lost her clubs and rallied to win the Mizuno Classic with a borrowed set. This year she's hoping to find her game.

Hjorth has struggled on the LPGA Tour since winning the Mizuno Classic last year. One year after winning twice and finishing 11th on the money list, she tumbled to 49th this season. Perhaps a return to the scene of her remarkable victory last year will boost her confidence.

Hjorth arrived in Japan for last year's event without her golf clubs, which were lost by an airline during her trip, and she had to borrow a set of clubs from the Seta Golf Course during the first round. She managed a 70 with the borrowed clubs.

When her clubs finally arrived after the completion of the first round, Hjorth used a mixed set of clubs to tie her career-low score of 64. She followed that with a 67 on the final round to defeat Laura Davies, Ok-Hee Ku, Aki Nakano and Fumiko Muragachi by five strokes. Her 15-under 201 is the tournament record.

Hjorth will try to defend against a field that features 46 members of the LPGA Tour and 34 members of the Japan LPGA.

Among the competitors entered are two-time Mizuno champion Liselotte Neumann and 2000 tournament champions Sophie Gustafson, Lorie Kane, Grace Park, Nancy Scranton and Annika Sorenstam.

This is the second week in Japan for the LPGA Tour following last week's Cisco World Ladies Challenge, a team competition won by the Japan LPGA.
