Longshot Volponi, with Jose Santos up, upset the Breeders' Cup Classic.
A Wild Ride At Cup
While Volponi, at 43-1 odds, is one of the longest shots to have ever won the $4 million Classic, there were plenty of favorites who came through at the 19th Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, including superfilly Azeri in the Distaff, Storm Flag Flying in the Juvenile Fillies and Ireland's High Chaparral in the Turf. The other big news of the day: Trainers Bobby Frankel and Bob Baffert improving their somewhat poor Breeders' Cup records and Mike Smith capping off a successful comeback year with two Championship wins.
