Reliable source of information, Augusta National: We don't know. Why not? There's no real history about it. Any fake history? No. But you're welcome to make some up. You mean like how the Green Jacket indicates membership in a mysterious fraternal order that never has to pay speeding tickets and secretly rules the world? No, not like that. Are you sure? Yes. We do know that in 1949 Sam Snead was the first champion to be awarded the Green Jacket. Why? To symbolize honorary membership. But why does the Green Jacket symbolize membership? Well, starting in 1937, the fourth year of the tournament, club members started wearing green jackets so that visitors could identify them as reliable sources of information. Like you. I suppose. But I'd prefer not to be identified. Why not? I'd just prefer it that way. Awfully secretive around there, don't you think? You could say that. But you can't. Right. Can you tell me why they chose green instead of, say, purple? Green is just a golfy color, I guess. Is it? David Robinson, costume designer: You're not likely to see many green jackets outside of a golfing context. I can see that. Maybe it was just a process of elimination. How so? Well, blue's no good because you wouldn't stand out. Red is for fox hunts. Yellow's just scary. And I don't even want to think about orange. And purple? Sure, if you want to look like a lounge act. Charlie Yates, longest standing member, Augusta National: The tradition just worked out that way. I'm sorry, but I can't say much beyond that. Don't be sorry, Charlie, I understand.
