MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Jeromy Burnitz hit a two-run homer and was
credited with a save by Milwaukee manager Davey Lopes.

Burnitz's first-inning homer erased an early deficit and Jose
Hernandez had a three-run double Wednesday night as the Brewers
beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3.
"That was big," Lopes said of Burnitz's homer off Matt Morris that wiped out a 2-0 deficit. "This guy out there throwing
tonight, he has an explosive fastball, a hard slider, the right
makeup you like to see in a pitcher.
"To jump on him quick and get those runs right back, as far as
I'm concerned, made a big impact for us."
Milwaukee remained hot at Miller Park, improving to 18-7 in its new stadium.
Paul Rigdon (3-1) won for the first time in six starts since
April 21, allowing three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Rigdon left the bases loaded in the first inning, a runner on
second in the third and runners on first and third in the fourth.
He departed with a runner on third and two outs in the sixth.
"I battled and made some pitches when I needed to," Rigdon
said. "Overall, I didn't have my best stuff tonight. That was the
biggest thing. I was able to make pitches when I needed to. I knew
that if I went out and did my best, the team would pick me up and
they did. They put seven runs up."
Morris (6-3), bidding to become the NL's second seven-game
winner, joining Arizona's Curt Schilling, allowed four runs, seven
hits and five walks in five innings. He had been 5-0 in six starts
since losing to the Diamondbacks on April 16.
"I gave up 0-2, 1-2 hits," Morris said. "That shouldn't
happen to anybody. I left the ball up and, right now, they're hot.
So, they won't let you get away with that."
St. Louis manager Tony La Russa was ejected by plate umpire Mike
Fichter in the ninth for arguing a called strike to Jim Edmonds.
Craig Paquette put St. Louis ahead with a two-run single in the
first, but Burnitz tied it in the bottom half with his team-leading
14th homer.
"That was definitely big," Burnitz said. "It shifts the
momentum. That puts the game right back at nothing-nothing."
Geoff Jenkins hit a go-ahead double in the third, extending his
hitting streak to a career-high 13 games, and scored on a single by
Richie Sexson for a 4-2 lead.
Placido Polanco hit an RBI single in the fourth, but Hernandez
broke open the game in the seventh with his bases-loaded double off
Gene Stechschulte, a drive down the left-field line.
Game notes
Fernando Vina singled in the first and eighth innings,
giving him a league-leading 43 singles. ... Vina was hit by a pitch
for the second straight game, boosting his season total to 10, tops
in the majors. ... Morris was 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA in four previous
games against Milwaukee. ... Brewers C Henry Blanco, who has thrown
out 10 of 16 would-be base stealers, helped prevent a big inning
when he picked Ray Lankford off second base in the fourth with
runners on first and second. ... Hernandez is now 4-for-7 (.571)
with 11 RBI with the bases loaded. ... Brewers reliever Ray King
pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning, his 12th consecutive
scoreless outing. King has not allowed a run in May.
