NEW YORK -- San Antonio Spurs center David Robinson won the NBA Sportsmanship Award on Monday, receiving 82 of 124 votes from a panel of media members.

Indiana's Sam Perkins finished second with 20 votes, followed by Golden State's Antawm Jamison and Washington's Chris Whitney.

Robinson has asked that the $25,000 award be donated to the Carver Academy, a privately financed and governed school serving pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students from low-income families on San Antonio's East Side.

"It's an honor to join a very distinguished group of individuals," Robinson said. "Along with winning another NBA championship, seeing the Carver Academy open its doors is one of the great challenges in my life. This donation is going to help move us one step closer to making that happen."

Each NBA team nominated one player for the award. Past winners are Joe Dumars, Eric Snow, Hersey Hawkins, Avery Johnson and Terrell Brandon.
