On their relationship
Iverson: "I don't want to deal with this. This is where I want to be. I love this place. I love my teammates. I don't have no problems with Coach Brown at all. He has a problem with me about lifting, and I don't know what this thing is about practice because I haven't been missing practice ... I don't have a problem with this organization. I don't want to lose and then all summer go through this." |
Brown: "I'm looking at a kid who wants to win, and says he doesn't have a selfish bone in his body. I heard him say he wants to be the first to practice and the last to leave, so now do it." |
Practice, Practice, Practice
Iverson: "If I can't practice, I can't practice. If I'm hurt, I'm hurt. It's not about that. It's easy to sum it up when you talk about practice. I'm supposed to be the franchise player and we're in here talking about practice. Not a game -- we're talking about practice. How silly is that? I know I'm supposed to be there, I know I'm supposed to lead by example, I know that. I'm not shoving it aside. I know it's important, but we're talking about practice." |
Brown: "He's said 100 times that he's unselfish, that he wants to be
the first guy to practice and the last guy to leave, that he wants
to make his teammates better, that he wants to win a championship
and I'm there to remind him of it. Nobody in my
profession has had a challenge like this and I don't look at that
in a bad way." |
On bruised feelings
Iverson: "I know I do all I can for this city, for this team, for this franchise, for my teammates. I don't think nobody in the world plays harder than me. And for me to go through this is just tough, man. I'm tired. I'm tired. I always said -- everybody in Philadelphia knows, all y'all know -- I want to be here. That ain't no secret." |
Brown: "It seemed to me that was a young kid reaching out for help.
His feelings were obviously hurt. I admire him, I
love him personally, I love the way he competes and tries to win,
but I've had issues with him as far as coming to practice and being
on time and becoming a better player. I said all those things were
in his control."
On whether Iverson might be traded
Iverson: "Franchise players don't go through this. Franchise players' daughters don't have to go to school and hear,
'Is your daddy coming back?'; 'What's going on with your daddy and
coach Brown?' She's seven years old and that's what she's got to
deal with. It hurt, because I know I'm better than that." |
Brown: "I told him, 'You can tell your daughter not to worry about it. Daddy's going to be living in Philadelphia.' " |
On the future of their relationship
Iverson: "I'm not going nowhere and Larry Brown isn't going nowhere. He told me that. I let him know that I'm that pit bull in his yard and if anybody tries to intrude, I'm going to be the one that's going to bite and protect his home." |
Brown: "My problems with Allen have been the same for six years. I love him, his competitiveness. I'm proud of the way he tries in every game. The issues are things he has control over and he'll have a problem with me if he doesn't take care of it."
