OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- UCLA pitcher Keira Goerl helped the No. 1 Bruins to a five win week with her exceptional efforts in the circle. After 22.1 innings, a no-hitter, and 25 strikeouts, the junior from Moreno Valley, Calif., was selected by the Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, as the Player of the Week for the week of March 24-30.

	Keira Goerl went 3-0 with an ERA of 0.31 last week.

The right-hander started the week with a five-inning run-rule victory over No. 8 Cal State Fullerton, a game in which she struck out six and did not allow an extra-base hit. In the Bruins' Pac-10 opener at No. 9 Stanford, Goerl recorded her first no-hitter in the 2003 season after previously recording 12 one-hitters this season. She completed her week's work with an extra-innings 4-1 win at No. 6 California, where she struck out eight batters. In game two of the California series, Goerl had a streak of 98 innings without allowing an earned run come to an end. She had not allowed an earned run since UCLA's Feb. 15 game against then No. 4 Nebraska.

At 3-0 on the week, Goerl's opponents hit .123 against her, including just .106 in Pac-10 play. She tallied a 0.31 ERA for the week.

"Keira did an excellent job of leading us in the circle last week," said UCLA head coach Sue Enquist. "She did a great job of getting ahead of the batters and she combined that with great defense. It's an honor to be recognized on the national level for her performance."For the second straight week Goerl and the Bruins (31-2, 3-0 Pac-10) remain No.1 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll. They return to the field facing a tough weekend battling Pac 10 rivals Arizona State and Arizona.

The USA Softball National Player of the Week is designed to acknowledge outstanding athletic achievement by individuals on a weekly basis.
