The Bulldogs will struggle. In fact, with only two players with any quality minutes returning, this may be the toughest season of Jim Harrick's coaching career. The Bulldogs lost so many players -- Evans, Coleman and D.A Lane who mistakenly left for the NBA -- this club is really going to struggle. What makes it more difficult for Harrick is that last year, he got his 16-15 club to the NCAA Tournament. They'd love to do it again, but I'm afraid they'll be nowhere near that this year.
    Outlook
Where'd everybody go? Four of the Bulldogs' top five scorers are gone, including all three primary post players from a year ago.

At least Jim Harrick knew he was going to lose widebodys Shon Coleman and Anthony Evans, plus 7-foot-2 backup center Robb Dryden. They were all seniors. It was the foolish departure of junior guard D.A. Layne (leader in points, assists, steals, 3-pointers and minutes) for the pros that confounded Harrick.

Layne went undrafted. And as the roster vividly reflects, he could have been useful had he stayed in Athens.

Without him, the only returnees of note are guards Ezra Williams (12 ppg) and Rashad Wright (103 assists). Sparsely used forwards Chris Daniels and Steve Thomas will be asked to fill in up front.

A couple recruits didn't make it academically, further undercutting this team's depth. Two new guys of interest are twin transfers Jarvis and Jonas Hayes, formerly of Western Carolina. Jarvis was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year before transferring, and could help fill out a small front line.

What we like: Williams and Wright at least present an active backcourt. Both played about 20 minutes per game last year, so they know what it takes to compete in the SEC.

What we don't like: Aside from major questions about where points, rebounds and perimeter shooting is going to come from, what's not to like?

The bottom line: Good thing Harrick got a raise negotiated before this season (thought not as lucrative as he wanted) because it could be a long one. The schedule is at least a little more lenient than last year's meat-grinder, but it should seem plenty tough to a team with glaring absences of height, width and depth.
