Toe injury may keep Bloom out of action

Associated Press

BOULDER, Colo. -- Colorado wide receiver-kick returner Jeremy Bloom probably will miss Saturday's game against USC because of a broken big left toe.

Coach Gary Barnett called Bloom very doubtful for the game.

Bloom returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in the Buffaloes' season opener against Colorado State and set up another score with a 31-yard return last week against San Diego State. He was injured when he was tripped on his last punt return Saturday night.

Bloom says he plans to try to practice on Thursday.

Bloom chose football over his Olympic skiing career on on Aug. 19, giving up his endorsement deals to play at Colorado.

Bloom finished ninth in freestyle moguls in February at the Salt Lake City Olympics and had hoped to keep his skiing sponsorship deals while playing for Colorado, but NCAA rules prohibit endorsements by college athletes.

A judge denied Bloom 's request to bar the NCAA from enforcing those rules.
