Dear Diary,
We didn't have a practice Tuesday morning, so I hung out at the hotel for a while and then went to an hour-long meeting where we watched tape from Monday's workout. Our South squad is working with the Arizona coaching staff. They put in some new plays at the meeting and went over the afternoon practice schedule. The team had some time to study the plays before going out to execute them in the afternoon. We're still trying to get on the same page.
I took my wife, Melody, and son, Austin, down to the lobby for a while Tuesday morning and met about a million people. Austin, who is 20 months old, got to run around and use some of his endless energy. When he's stuck in hotels, he tends to bounce off the walls so we have to get him outside. It's great to have them here with me.

Tuesday afternoon's practice was a little better. The guys relaxed and we played ball like we had been teammates for a while. We're starting to get our timing down. The players are still learning and getting a feel for the offense, but because we were more relaxed, the communication and leadership was better. The practice tempo was great. It was a lot more fun.
Melody and Austin have been to all the practice sessions, as has my dad, Rodger. They're having a blast. Melody is even starting to recognize people. She recognized Dick Vermeil yesterday. That was pretty cool -- I'm kind of proud of her.
After practice you sign about a million autographs and talk to whatever respective team officials that want to come up and say hi. They scouts have been telling me that they've watched me all year and enjoyed my play. I got to meet a couple of scouts from Bakersfield, Calif. -- where I'm from -- who said they were glad to see a guy from there doing well. We hung out for a while and talked. It was pretty cool. Walking to the bus is where you get the autograph requests, which is pretty interesting. There's a whole bunch of people there and you want to sign every one, but the security guards keep pushing you towards the bus. It was fun and I signed as many as I could.
At night you're able to set your own schedule. In addition to having dinner, you do some of your interviews. On Tuesday night, we grabbed something to eat at the Adam's Mark Hotel and met with the Houston Texans. Bob McNair, the owner, Charley Casserly, the general manager, and Chris Palmer, the offensive coordinator, came up to the room. They chatted with Melody, my dad and I for a while. Austin was running around in there too. Dad ended up taking Austin for a drive because it was getting kind of late and we needed to continue our discussion.
With Austin out of the room, Melody and I had a chance to sit down and really talk to the Texans staff. They wanted to know basic background kind of stuff, like where Melody and I met. It was just basic stuff. I enjoyed meeting Mr. McNair. He's a good Christian man and I respect how he acted and treated everybody.
Wednesday's practice finally felt like the practices I'm used to. I think only one or two balls hit the ground on our side. The receivers are catching the ball great and are in the right spots. That's the hardest thing too -- getting the timing down with your guys. It's starting to come around a little bit.
We have a light practice scheduled for Thursday and I think most of the scouts are supposed to head out of town. Going into the game, we just need to execute. I'm excited about playing in Saturday's Senior Bowl and writing my in-game diary. It should be a lot of fun.
Later,
DC
