| | WACO, Texas -- Former All-American and Olympic gold medalist
Kim Mulkey-Robertson was named Baylor's fourth head women's
basketball coach, athletic director Tom Stanton announced Tuesday.
Mulkey-Robertson replaces her former college coach, Sonja Hogg,
who announced her retirement in February.
"Leaving Louisiana Tech is one of the hardest decisions I've
ever made," said Mulkey-Robertson, who won gold medals at the 1984
Olympics and 1983 Pan American Games. "But this opportunity at
Baylor is both exciting and professionally challenging."
Mulkey-Robertson, 37, spent the last 20 years as either a player
or assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, winning three national titles
and making 11 Final Four trips. She has either played or coached in
the national championship game on six occasions.
Louisiana Tech was 130-6, won two national titles and reached
the Final Four four times with Mulkey-Robertson as a player. In 15
years with her as an assistant, Louisiana Tech was 430-68 and
advanced to seven Final Fours.
"Kim has been a role model for young women throughout her
career, and we're excited that she'll now be setting that example
as a member of the Baylor family," Stanton said.
Mulkey-Robertson will be inducted into the Women's Basketball
Hall of Fame in June. | |
