CHARLOTTE, N.C. Ed Baldwin, the winningest women's basketball coach in Charlotte history, announced his resignation Wednesday after 13 years at the Conference USA school.
"I think this is the right time to step down," said Baldwin. "I've had the opportunity to coach some real good people and develop some great relationships along the way. It's just time to move on."
Baldwin came to Charlotte in 1988-89 and one year later guided
Charlotte to 24 wins, a share of the Metro Conference
regular-season title and the first postseason berth in school
history in the Women's NIT.
Under Baldwin, the 49ers recorded two more 20-win seasons. But
they were 10-18 this season and lost to Marquette in the opening
round of the C-USA tournament. He compiled a 175-191 record at
Charlotte and coached three All-Americans.
Before coming to Charlotte, Baldwin spent three seasons as an assistant under Kay Yow at North Carolina State.
