DURHAM, N.C. -- For the second year in a row, Duke junior Alana Beard has been selected ACC Player of the Year by the ACC Sports Media Association.
Beard received 49 of 50 votes with teammate Iciss Tillis receiving the other vote. On the season, Beard has averaged 21.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 3.1 assists and 1.2 blocks, while leading Duke to a second consecutive perfect 19-0 in the ACC. The Blue Devils won their fourth straight ACC tournament championship and third consecutive ACC regular-season title. A week ago, Beard was selected first team All-ACC for the third straight year, and earned a spot on the ACC All-Defensive team for a third time. The ACC Player of the Year honor for Duke marks the fourth year in a row a Blue Devil has brought home the award. Georgia Schweitzer was selected in 2000 and 2001. |
