CLEVELAND Cleveland Browns owner Al Lerner has returned
home following brain surgery.
The 68-year-old billionaire had the operation Monday, a day
after being admitted to the Cleveland Clinic with flu-like
symptoms. He reportedly had a tumor removed.
"Mr. Lerner looks phenomenal and sounds great," team president
Carmen Policy said. "I'm going to honor the family request to only
say that he was at the clinic. It was a procedure that was done,
and it went very, very well. He's fine. He has not lost a beat or
missed a step."
Lerner was unable to attend the commencement ceremony Sunday at
Cleveland State University, where he was to receive an honorary
degree. He attended the Browns' mini-camp last week and showed no
signs of being ill.
Policy said he was taking Lerner to the Browns' practice on
Friday. Lerner also planned to attend league meetings Monday,
Policy said.
Policy made his comments Thursday night before meeting fans at
an annual tailgate party for season-ticket holders.
"We will have a special invited guest at camp tomorrow," coach
Butch Davis said. "I'm absolutely surprised at how well he's done.
A lot of that comes from the spirit a person has. He's such a
competitor."
Lerner also is the chairman of MBNA Corp., the largest
independent bank-based credit card lender in the United States. His
net worth has been estimated at nearly $5 billion.
