Wild reverse fortunes with man-advantage

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

BOSTON (AP) -- After 10 road games and 46 opportunities, the Minnesota Wild finally scored a power-play goal. They liked it so much, they did it four times.

Lubomir Sekeras and Maxim Sushinsky each scored twice and Minnesota broke out of a road power-play slump with four man-advantage goals as the Wild beat the Boston Bruins 6-1 Saturday night.

"We were more shocked we got the first one," Wild captain Scott Pellerin said. "I had to ask my teammates after the game how many we actually scored."

The Wild entered the game with an NHL-worst six power-play goals.

Sushinsky opened the scoring for Minnesota when he knocked in his second rebound and beat Bruins goalie Byron Dafoe at 4:35 of the first period.

"The whole team is embarrassed and it was awful from beginning to end," Dafoe said. "We lost to an expansion team that couldn't match the talent on our team."

The second period featured seven minor penalties on the Bruins and three two-man advantages for the Wild.

"I don't know what was going on with the referees tonight," Wild goalie Manny Fernandez said. "We were nervous that the refs would balance it out in the third, so we came out real careful."

Sekeras scored two power-play goals on slap shots, 7:50 apart, to give the Wild a 3-0 lead.

The Bruins lost consecutive home games for the first time this season.

"Management can change coaches and change players, but ultimately the core group has to take responsibility," Bruins coach Mike Keenan said. "This group does not respect the people they are playing and we have to find out why."

Pellerin and Brad Bombardir each had three assists for expansion Minnesota, 3-2 in its last five road games. The Wild were 0-6-1 in back-to-back games.

Jason Allison cut the deficit to 3-1 when he scored his second short-handed goal this season. Allison scored his 11th goal after he fell on the puck and then jammed it past Fernandez.

Sushinsky and Darby Hendrickson scored power-play goals in the third period.

"This is one of the best efforts we have had all year," Hendrickson said. "Our power-play was clicking and our top players all came through."

The Bruins fell to 18-2-4 against the last nine expansion teams playing in their inaugural season.

Peter Bartos capped the scoring for Minnesota with 2:15 left.

Dafoe has not won since October 7.
