TORONTO (AP) -- Darcy Tucker helped the Toronto Maple Leafs win consecutive games for the first time in almost a month.

Toronto's Darcy Tucker, center, is hugged by Bran McCabe following his third-period goal Saturday night.
Tucker scored twice in the third period and Curtis Joseph made 29 saves as the Leafs beat the New York Rangers 3-1 Saturday night.

"We got some breaks tonight that we weren't getting, and Curtis played great tonight," Tucker said.

Sergei Berezin also scored for Toronto, which last won two straight Dec. 30-31.

Tucker's slap shot just to the left of goalie Kirk McLean gave Toronto a 2-0 lead at 6:10 of the third.

After New York's Theo Fleury spoiled Joseph's shutout bid at 9:10, Tucker scored again at 14:03. Toronto's Mats Sundin held off defenseman Sylvain Lefebvre, skated behind the net and passed to a wide-open Tucker, who shot it past McLean.

"That was a great play by Mats," Tucker said. "He's been great for us lately. He's stepped up."

Fleury scored his 29th goal for the Rangers, who have lost three straight games. The Rangers began the night 10th in the Eastern Conference, seven points behind eighth-place Boston.

"We're running out of games," Fleury said. "We have to start winning. It's desperate time."

Joseph won his 305th game, tying him with former Islanders goalie Billy Smith for 15th on the NHL's career list.

Joseph made several spectacular stops during a 13-save first period.

Berezin scored a power-play goal at 19:29 of the first to give Toronto a 1-0 lead.

New York went 0-for-2 on the power play and has converted just three of its last 74 opportunities.

"We had a great effort tonight, but we need the points and that's the bottom line," New York's Petr Nedved said.
