BOX SCORE
TORONTO (AP) -- Glenn Healy didn't make any excuses for the
Toronto Maple Leafs' tie with expansion Columbus.
The Blue Jackets' Tyler Wright scored midway through the third
period to give Columbus a 2-2 tie with Toronto on Wednesday night.
"It's the ice one game. It's fitness in another, and a referee
the next game. Ultimately, it's us," said Healy, who made 22 saves
in his 11th appearance of the season.
"We're the guys that are playing a team that we should beat in
our building, and we didn't."
Robert Kron also scored for the Blue Jackets, who have five wins
in 26 road games.
Tomas Kaberle and Gary Roberts scored for the Maple Leafs, who
have just seven wins in their last 18 games.
Roberts blamed recent fitness tests for a tired effort.
"After a good hard day of fitness tests, you're going to be
sluggish, and I think that was the case tonight," Roberts said.
"We had heavy legs."
Kron opened the scoring 1:23 into the game. Parked at the side
of the net, Kron converted Geoff Sanderson's pass from the slot.
Kaberle's slap shot from the faceoff circle tied it at 1 at
19:04 of the second, and Roberts' power-play goal gave Toronto the
lead at 4:30 of the third.
After Toronto's Mats Sundin fired a shot from the blue line,
Steve Thomas deflected it under goalie Ron Tugnutt's pads, and
Roberts pushed it across the goal line.
Wright's slap shot from the faceoff circle tied it at 2 at 10:22
of the third.
"We're disappointed we didn't get the two points, but we can
take some positives from this game," Columbus' Kevyn Adams said.
Thomas almost scored the go-ahead goal with less than three
minutes remaining in the third period, but his backhander hit the
crossbar. The play was reviewed by video and determined to be no
goal.
"I knew it wasn't in because I heard a ting, rather than a
clunk," Tugnutt said. "It was pretty close."
Tugnutt made 27 saves.
Game notes
Toronto's Shayne Corson, playing his 1,000th NHL, fought Jamie Pushor in the second period. Before the game, Corson and his
family were presented with the scoresheet from his first game. ...
The Leafs have won consecutive games just once in 2001. ... The
game is the first meeting between the teams and their only matchup
of the season. ... The Blue Jackets are 1-3-3 since a three-game
winning streak from Jan. 21-27.
