DETROIT (AP) It didn't take long for Sergei Fedorov to show
how he planned to help make up for the loss of Steve Yzerman and
Brendan Shanahan.

Yzerman to miss Game 3 |
|
Red Wings' star Steve Yzerman, who missed Saturday's Game 2, is not expected to play in Game 3 on Sunday in Los Angeles.
Red Wings' coach Scotty Bowman told the Detroit Free Press that Yzerman may fly to Los Angeles on Tuesday in time to play in Game 4 against the Kings on Wednesday.
Yzerman originally injured the ankle on March 31, then reaggravated the injury in Game 1 of this Western Conference quarterfinals series.

Fedorov scored two minutes into the game, assisted on the second
goal seven minutes later and even did some checking and
shot-blocking as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-0
on Saturday, extending their first-round winning streak and adding to
the Kings' playoff woes.
"I was very excited, no question about it," Fedorov said of
his increased role, which included centering two lines.
Detroit has won 13 straight first-round games, breaking a record
by the Edmonton Oilers from 1983-86, and now have a 2-0 lead in the
best-of-seven series, which resumes Sunday night at Los Angeles.
The Kings have not won a playoff game since the 1993 Stanley Cup
finals and have lost 14 straight postseason games, including four
in the first round against Detroit last season.
Vyacheslav Kozlov scored twice, Steve Duchesne added a goal and
Chris Osgood stopped 20 shots to record a shutout for the ninth
time in the playoffs.
How the Red Wings responded to the absence of Yzerman and
Shanahan did not surprise the Kings.
"We knew that they were going to come out harder because they
were missing those two guys and they did exactly that," the Kings'
Aaron Miller said. "It's a great team. They've got a lot of depth,
that's why they've had so much success."
The Kings were 0-for-5 on the power play in Game 2 after missing
out on their only opportunity in Game 1. The Wings were 3-for-6
with an extra man on Saturday after going 2-for-4 on the power play
Wednesday.

Last year, Los Angeles was 0-for-23 on the power play in the
playoffs against Detroit. The Kings ranked seventh on the power
play this season.
"I think the special teams are maybe a picture of what's going
on in this series," Los Angeles coach Andy Murray said. "Their
team is simply playing a more determined, energized game than our
team."
Detroit coach Scotty Bowman shuffled his lineup with one less
forward and an extra defenseman to compensate for the loss of
Yzerman and Shanahan. They account for nearly 20 percent of the Red
Wings' offense.
Yzerman is expected to miss one more game with a sprained ankle,
while Shanahan is out indefinitely with a broken foot.
The win gave Bowman, the winningest coach in NHL history, his
1,400th win combining his regular season and playoff victories.
Felix Potvin made 28 saves for the Kings.
Fedorov made Potvin's job difficult right away.
He scored a power-play goal 2:16 into the game on a slap shot
from the right circle that was so hard that Potvin didn't appear to
see it as it deflected off a post and into the net.
On Detroit's second power-play, Fedorov made a cross-ice pass to
Duchesne, who scored on a one-timer at 9:12 of the first.
Fedorov helped the Red Wings kill five penalties. He laid down
on the ice to stop a shot, which hit his right foot, while Detroit
was shorthanded for five minutes in the second period.
Shanahan's foot was broken on a similar play in Game 1 and
Yzerman's ankle problems reportedly trace back to a puck he blocked
against Philadelphia two weeks ago.
"I thought I was smarter than those two guys," Fedorov joked.
Kozlov gave Detroit a 3-0 lead at 6:04 of the third when he
redirected a Larry Murphy shot at the 13:31 mark.
Game notes
Detroit defenseman Chris Chelios, who had been out since
March 17 with a broken thumb, played 16:12. .... Yzerman had played
in 64 consecutive playoff games since missing one in 1996. ...
Detroit's first three goals were all scored on Potvin's glove side.
... Los Angeles' Adam Deadmarsh and Nelson Emerson left the ice
shaken up in the second period, but were able to return.
