LOS ANGELES The New Jersey Devils, beset by injuries
to several key forwards, acquired veteran center Bob Corkum from
the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night for future considerations.
Corkum, 33, is a checking specialist who has four goals and six
assists in 58 games this season. The Kings assigned him to
Lowell on February 21, although he did not appear in any games
in the American Hockey League.
The 6-2, 225-pound Massachusetts native was a 1986 third-round
draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres. He also has played for
Anaheim, Philadelphia and Phoenix, totaling 91 goals and 97
assists in 627 NHL games.
The defending Stanley Cup champions are mired in their worst
slump of the season, with just one win in the last nine games
(1-4-3-1). They were beaten by Carolina, 3-2, on Friday night
without centers Sergei Brylin (knee), Jason Arnott (back) and
Scott Gomez (back) and right wing Alexander Mogilny (abdomen). Send this story to a friend | Most sent stories
