Stars won't make contract offers to Dahlen, Muller

ESPN.com news services

Dallas Stars: The Stars will not make contract offers to forwards Ulf Dahlen and Kirk Muller, who can become unrestricted free agents on July 1.

Dahlen, 36, is contemplating retirement and a return to his native Sweden, Stars general manager Doug Armstrong said.

Dahlen had 17 goals and 20 assists in 63 games this season. In his 14-season career, Dahlen notched 654 points (301 goals, 353 assists) and 49 game-winning goals in 966 games.

Muller, 37, came to the Stars in 1999. He had one goal and five assists in 55 games this season. He plans to test the free-agent market.

"There has to be a transition period," Armstrong said. "We're trying to have that transition to younger players without slipping in the standings or in our status in the league."
