DALLAS – Stars forward Mike Modano skated on his own for 10 minutes Monday morning, and said he will be ready to play Tuesday night in Game 3 against the Blues.

Modano missed Sunday's 2-1 loss because of a sprained left ankle. He suffered the injury in the series opener. The Blues lead the series 2-0.

Center Shaun Van Allen underwent surgery Monday to repair a broken jaw he suffered Sunday. The team did not have further word on his status. Van Allen took a puck to the mouth.

Modano had thought there was a chance he could play Sunday, but the center did not take part in the morning skate.

In the second period, St. Louis defenseman Bryce Salvador left with blood gushing from a gash over his right eye after being hit into the boards by Dallas' Benoit Hogue. No penalty was called, and he is still day to day.

Modano leads Dallas with five points and three goals this postseason.

An MRI on Saturday revealed no other injury.

Modano, who at Saturday's practice wasn't wearing the protective boot he left Reunion Arena with Friday night, said the injury was " ... a little tender. It was a real freak thing. It just rolled over."

Modano was hurt a minute into the second period of St. Louis' 4-2 victory in the opener of the second-round series. He accidentally banged legs with Blues defenseman Alexei Gusarov, then quickly hobbled off the ice and into the locker room.

The Stars, who trailed 2-1 at the time, allowed two goals within eight minutes of Modano's departure. Dallas also gave up three quick goals when Modano left a first-round game with a bloodied nose that required 35 stitches.

"Any time you lose a player like Mike Modano, that's going to affect your team. It's huge," Stars captain Derian Hatcher said.

Two years ago, Modano played in the Stanley Cup finals with a broken wrist – although the team didn't admit the extent of the injury until after the series.

"Who knows the extent of it?" Blues coach Joel Quenneville said of Modano's new injury. "But he's a great player. We'll see how it plays out."
