The only offseason moves made by GM David Poile were marginal. He obtained the much-traveled right wing Brantt Myhres and also sent left wing Patrick Cote packing to Edmonton. Poile feels that his club has a lot of depth now and does not want to deal any of youngsters. If either of the young netminders coming into camp -- Brian Finley and Jan Lasak -- makes a good impression, Poile might make a deal for a scoring forward.

Here's a look at the rest of Nashville's training camp.

Youth ready to contribute?
Veterans Cliff Ronning and Patric Kjellberg were the only two forwards to reach the 20-goal plateau last season. Twenty-year-old David Legwand enters camp as the No. 1 center, centering Ronning and Kjellberg.

He is expected to produce, but the Predators need other young forwards like Scott Walker, Ville Peltonen and Sebastien Bordeleau to carry a heavier load on offense. None of the three scored more than 13 goals last season. Expect Vitali Yachmenev and Randy Robitaille to make a push for second-line duty, as well. Twenty-year-old right wing Konstantin Panov scored 43 goals in 64 games for Kamloops of the Western League last season and is an underdog to make the squad.

Biggest position battle: Defense
Drake Berehowsky anchors a blueline corps which includes promising youngsters, Karlis Skrastins and Kimmo Timonen. After that, pickings get slim in a hurry. That sets up a big battle in training camp for the final four spots. Veterans Bill Houlder and Cale Hulse will be fighting for their lives with Richard Lintner Craig Millar, Marc Moro and Pavel Skrbek pushing to take their jobs. The sleeper in this group is Skrbek. The 22-year-old Czech brings size (6-foot-3, 212 pounds) and speed to the table. In 51 games for the Penguins' Wilkes-Barre AHL farm team last season, Skrbek scored seven goals and had 23 points.

Future watch
Here, ESPN.com looks at one or two young players who could make an impact, either now or in the future.

Denis Arkhipov (Right wing):
Everyone knows Nashville needs offense. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone why the Predators selected Denis Arkhipov in the third round (60th overall) of the '98 draft. The right wing displays great range and uses his 6-foot-3, 196-pound frame to effectively stickhandle around opponents. Arkhipov, 21, will get a long, hard look in training camp.

Brian Finley (Goalie):
The Predators currently have two NHL netminders in Mike Dunham and Tomas Vokoun. But when a good goalie is available in the draft, you grab him. That's what Nashville did with its first pick (sixth overall) in '99 when it selected the Finley, who led the OHL in '98-99 with 36 wins, while posting a solid GAA of 2.66.
