St. Louis gets Nationals during Olympic year

Associated Press

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The 2006 U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be held in St. Louis at the Savvis Center.

Nationals, which also serve as the Olympic trials, will run Jan. 7-15, 2006. The 2006 Winter Games are the following month in Turin, Italy.

This will be the first time St. Louis has hosted the U.S. championships. They've been in Missouri only once before, in Kansas City in 1985.

Other finalists for the 2006 nationals were Cincinnati, Cleveland and Minneapolis.

The 2003 nationals will be in Dallas, and Atlanta will play host to it the following year. Portland will have the 2005 championships.
