From the Page 2 mailbag

Here are your responses to last week's Page 2 Power Poll:

Let's hope the Lakers won't repeat their cheesy bit for another championship. Shaq is oh so human, please don't compare him to the all-time great Michael Jordan ... The only reason the lakers won last year is for the master himself, Mr. Phil Jackson, and not the two fighting children Kobe and Superwoman.

Let's hope for the the good of basketball, for the sake of all human kind that Allen Iverson will finally get his much-deserved ring. Respect that talent, he's all about heart.

For personal reasons I hope Ray Bourque will finally get his claim of fortune

And on a final note where are my red sox? Why is there no spot for the best team in baseball?
David Schonberger
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

I think that you are dead wrong about the St. Louis Blues. They are one of the hottest teams in the NHL if not the hottest and they can beat Colorado if they play the way they did against Dallas. I think that they will beat Colorado in six games. I agree with the Spurs going down because I hate the Spurs, and they will lose to the Lakers in four.
Stephen Jeffers
Independence, Mo.

St. Louis Blues in the Mo' Section. Are you kidding me? Two words: Peter Forsberg.

Chris Pronger and Keith Tkachuk will do whatever they want and you know that Joe Sakic's shoulder won't make it past the first two games. All that plus Patrick Roy was good, but he ain't what he used to be. The Blues have crushed three great goalies in the playoffs already. Switch your arrows boys!

I'm not saying the Cleveland Indians aren't a fine team but can we hold off until they start playing teams that are better than mediocre before we begin raising them up the list?
Craig Kennedy
Los Angeles

The way the Lakers are play now some people say the Spurs will be their hardest team to face but really their hardest thing will be to stop the Big Stock Exchange, Shaq Daddy.
Adam
California

Somebody voted for Bayern Munich? Who'd ever thought the Page 2 flunkies were so well-educated?
Rick Desper
Rockville, Md.

I sincerely hope that Valencia cracks your top 10 when they spank Bayern in the championship game on May 23. Fuuutbool!
Kene Larson
Pullman, Wash.

I don't think you give the Spurs the credit they deserve. If Duncan wouldn't have been hurt last year they would have won the title. The Spurs have had their way with the Lakers for the past few years and I think it will continue in the next round. The Lakers have had a great playoff run but they haven't played the Spurs yet. Let's see how Shaq does against Duncan and Robinson.
Ernest
San Antonio, Texas

Indians at No. 4? Maybe if they had beaten a team with a winning record during their streak you could justify the four spot. Despite their winning streak they are still behind the Twins.
. Reese Ferguison
Boise, Idaho

I just wanted to disagree, with the Blues and the Bucks. For one thing the Blues swept the veteran Stars and are playing well now that they are healthy, oh yeah and Forsberg is down.

As for the Bucks, they are a team that has won through the playoffs without even playing their best games, and when they do that they will beat anybody. Philly is only good for the West, and they will not even get there!
Brian Butler
Milwaukee

How can you possibly say the Blues are going to begin sliding? Hockey fans in St. Louis deserve a winner and they will be rewarded this year!
Matt
Columbus, Ohio

How can Cleveland only be No. 4 -- they've won 10 straight games! Other than the Lakers, I don't think anyone comes close to that right now -- certainly not St.Louis.
Matt Root
Sidney, B.C.

Time to readjust the "Mo' Meter", now that Forsberg is out, the Blues must feel like they are destined for greatness with luck in their back pockets.
Mark
St. Louis

I wish the Lakers and Spurs could play each other for the championship as opposed to the Western Conference title. Right now, I think these two teams are the hottest to beat. It's sad they will have to play each other before it gets to that point.
Toney Bridges
Memphis, Tenn.

You've had the Cubs on your list since almost the first day of the baseball season, always with a down arrow. Well, they are still eight games over .500 and in first place in the Central. Don't you think they at least deserve an equal sign by now? Holy Cow, Cubs win!
Jeff Kado
Sunnyvale, Calif.

This comment is in regard to the University of Washington football program: Billy Joe Hobert is long gone. This is a class program, and two incidents do not warrant a Miami comparison. These two players made big mistakes, but this is not indicative of a bigger problem.

OK, slam back all you want.
Jeff Wallace
Spokane, Wash.

How can you compare the University of Washington Huskies to the University of Miami?! We are all aware that the "new" University of Miami, complete with an extensive list of transfers straight from the local penitentiary, is currently located in Corvallis, Ore.

Not to mention, comparisons between the Hurricanes and Huskies shouldn't really be made until those bums can take a game off the purple and gold. How long of a home winning streak will we end this coming season?
Mike Mahurin
San Francisco

Sorry guys, the Blues are just rested ... not rusted. They've had great practices, while Colorado has had to play to Game 7. Forsberg getting injured has to take some of the steam out of Colorado, while the Blues have to think that their chances are even better.

Keep in mind that tbe Blues swept Dallas, and Colorado took seven to beat L.A. Just because you haven't heard anything about the Blues for a week doesn't mean that they've lost momentum!
Jeff Chenot
St. Louis

How can you say the Blues have peaked? Not only did they beat out San Jose in a tough series, but they smacked Dallas in four games. Sure, they have had a break, but translating that to peaking is pretty stupid. If anything, the Blues have just begun to get hot.

Whereas the Avs, who you have as still climbing are exhausted from a long series and have to deal with leading Peter Forsberg. I am not making any predictions, but this is going to be one heck of a series.
Grant Epstein
Chicago

Toronto deserves more than just a honorable mention. Come on.

The Raptors are underdogs kicking everyone's butts. The Jays are tearing up the majors. The Leafs should've played better, but are a really good team. And we have the Toronto Rock. One of the best pro lacrosse teams in the world. Not to mention that the Olympics will be here in 2008. We also have an arena football and a damn good CFL team. We just need an NFL franchise (put in a good word will you?).

T.O. is the place to be for top quality sports my friend, period. And the city rocks, great place to live, I did for 18 years.
Adam
London, Ontario

I don't agree with the Spurs being at No. 3 and considered to have peaked and heading downhill. The Lakers will find out that the team defence of the Spurs is dominating. The Lakers will not beat the Spurs in their seven-game series.
David Bowman
Charlotte N.C.

Put the Spurs at No. 1 on your list. Expect a rude awakening for L.A. when you travel to San Antonio. The Spurs' balance inside and out, on offense and defense, will be more than the Lakers are used to seeing.
Chris Dalton
San Diego, Calif.

I think that the momentum meter for the Blues is completely wrong. They took down one of the most powerful teams in the league and it proved to everybody that they can do it again against the so-called invincible Avs. Prediction Blues in six.
Allan Atkins
St. Louis
