A burly, intense man, casually dressed in a baseball cap with the letters "FDNY" on it and a T-shirt with a picture of President George W. Bush, Patient D presented a picture of extreme confusion.  First, he nervously fingered a pen on my desk, while asking if it was "a marble or something." Upon questioning, he acknowledged that he once had some difficulty distinguishing a baseball bat from a baseball, an embarrassing incident that apparently caused him no end of trouble with co-workers, or at least workers from the same industry.
"What did the bat remind you of?" I asked him. He was unable to answer this question; in fact, he could not even make eye contact. It seems obvious that Patient D's lack of self-esteem could be greatly bolstered by a few sessions of shape differentiation, perhaps at a local grade school.
