Became only the fifth male to complete a career Grand Slam -- Wimbledon in 1992, the U.S. Open in 1994, the Australian in 1995, and the French Open in 1999 -- and the first American man since 1938. He did it in impressive fashion, staging a comeback at the French Open from two sets down to beat Andrei Medvedev (1-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4).
Advanced to the finals of Wimbledon before losing to Pete Sampras, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Despite the loss, Agassi took over the No. 1 spot from Sampras the following week. It was the first time he had held the top spot since 1996.

Captured at least three titles on the ATP Tour for the third consecutive year.
He became the first player to win the Lipton title in Key Biscayne three times.
Defeated Sergi Bruguera in August in the final to become the first American man to win the Olympic Gold medal in singles since Vincent Richards in 1924.
Held the No. 1 ranking for two weeks (Jan. 29-Feb. 5) after a reign of 30 consecutive weeks in 1995.
