Did not win a title but reached the finals at Rottermdam and
Stockholm.
Reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the U.S. Open, losing to eventual finalist Mark Philippoussis, 12-10, in a fifth set tiebreaker after holding three match points. It was just the third time in his career he advanced past the second round at a Grand Slam tournament in 14 appearances.

Enjoyed his best career season by winning his first ATP Tour title -- at Copenhagen -- and repeating the performance the following week at St. Petersburg.
Reached personal highs in year-end ranking (39), singles match victories (32) and prize money ($363,967).

Reached Wolfsburg Challenger final and broke into the Top 100 (95) for the first time.
Reached the fourth round at Wimbledon -- his best showing ever at a Grand Slam.
