BIRMINGHAM, England -- Top-seeded Jelena Dokic moved into the semifinals of the DFS Classic grass-court tournament with a tough three-set win over unseeded Eleni Daniilidou of Greece on Friday. In a match delayed a total of four hours by rain, Dokic beat the 19-year-old Daniilidou 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Dokic was down 1-3 in the first set and had to save three break points for 1-4. She then won the deciding set with only one break, in the last game. "I was surprised that she hit the ball so well and used slice well,'' Dokic said. "But I held my serve pretty comfortably through the third set and I was pleased with that. It was a good win to get.'' Dokic next plays eighth-seeded Lisa Raymond of the United States. Raymond advanced to the semis after Clarissa Fernandez of Argentina retired during the first set with a knee injury. Raymond led 4-2. In another quarterfinal, Australia's Nicole Pratt beat seventh-seeded Anne Kremer of Luxembourg 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Pratt plays the winner of the Anastasia Myskina-Magadela Maleeva quarterfinal later Friday. |
