STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Paradorn Srichaphan came back to beat Marcelo Rios 6-7 (2), 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 Sunday in the final of the Stockholm Open. It was the second title of the year for the 23-year-old from Bangkok, Thailand, who won the TD Waterhouse Cup in New York in August. The win lifted him into the top 20 in the ATP Champions' Race for the first time. Paradorn, who also reached two other finals this year, broke Rios' serve twice in the last set and wrapped up the match with his 30th ace. "He's a lefty, so I like to go to the wide ball on the deuce court," Paradorn said. "That's why it worked pretty good today. But I didn't expect it to be so easy in the second set." Paradorn won $85,500, becoming the first Asian winner of the Stockholm Open, the world's oldest indoors. "It was a tough match," Rios said. "He went for the balls so much and served so good after the first set. So it was mentally tough to play." |
