  • Reached the final of Tennis Masters Series in Rome before falling 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 to Andre Agassi, who did not drop a set in the tournament.

  • After taking the title in Vienna, won his first Tennis Masters Series title in his home country at Stuttgart but just missed qualifying for the Tennis Masters Cup tournament.
  • Won his second title of the year the week before the U.S. Open by defeating Pete Sampras in Long Island 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

  • Won one of the first titles of the year at Auckland.

    2000
