Won the Budapest Open by defeating Anne Kremer, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Reached the final at Nice where she fell to Amelie Mauresmo 6-2, 6-0.
Reached the fourth round at Wimbledon before falling to Serena Williams.

Had best showing in four years at the French Open as she reached the third round,
winning her first Grand Slam matches since undergoing shoulder surgery in June 1998.
Reached the final at Luxembourg where she lost to Jennifer Capriati.

Returned to the tour in May after missing 11 months with an injury.

Upset of Martina Navratilova, handing Navratilova her first loss in Chicago before the semifinals since 1974.
Qualified for season-ending Chase Championships but unable to play due to continuing recovery from stress fracture of ribs.

Made Grand Slam history with sisters Katerina and Manuela by all being seeded at the
Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. They also made history by becoming the
first three sisters to reach the fourth round of the same Grand Slam tournament at the French Open -- then they did it again at the U.S. Open.
