1998
Reached third career Grand Slam semifinal at Australian Open as the No. 10 seed. Came back after being down 1-4 in both the second and third sets to beat third seed Amanda Coetzer in fourth round. Defeated seventh seed Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in the quarterfinals before falling to world No. 1 Martina Hingis in three sets.
Underwent foot surgery in April 1998 for an Achilles' tendon injury and was out four months, missing Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
In second tournament back from foot injury, upset Amanda Coetzer at Canadian Open to reach the quarterfinals; following week in New Haven, upset 10th-ranked Patty Schnyder to reach the quarterfinals and returned to the world's Top 20 in the rankings.
Reached first semifinal after returning to action from foot surgery at Princess Cup in Tokyo, falling in three sets to top seed Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario.
