Upset world No. 8 Irina Spirlea to reach the quarterfinals at Sydney.
At the German Open, saved two match points against eighth-ranked Mary Pierce in the second set and led 3-1 in the third when Pierce retired due to injury. Fell in the quarterfinals.
1997
Won sixth career title at Warsaw without dropping a set.
Missed start of season due to an injured right thumb. In July, withdrew from her quarterfinal match vs. Maria Lankowitz due to right elbow tendinitis.
Seeded fifth, upset fourth seed Sabine Appelmans en route to the final at Luxembourg, falling to world No. 5 Amanda Coetzer 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Reached third semifinal at the Italian Open as the 11th seed.
Joined the Million Dollar Club in career prize money.
1996
Entered the world's Top 10 at No. 10 for first time on November 18, capping a remarkable comeback from injuries suffered over the years -- her previous high was No. 12 reached six years earlier.
Reached the finals in six tournaments (Auckland, Hilton Head, Strasbourg, Styria, Warsaw and Moscow), winning one (Styria).

Won two titles -- at Warsaw and Pattaya.
