LAKE MANASSAS, Va. -- Match summaries from Friday's alternate-shot matches. Cink-Triplett (U.S.) def. Allenby-Appleby (International), 2&1
The most competitive match of the afternoon -- neither team led by more than two holes and the Internationals led as late as No. 12. Triplett and Cink performed magically for the second consecutive day, this time playing 17 holes in 6-under. The Australians were 5-under until Allenby missed a 4-footer for par on No. 17 to end the match. The U.S. pulled even on No. 13 and went ahead on No. 15 with Cink hitting irons to within 15 feet and Triplett dropping the putts.

The Americans birdied the second hole and got a gift when the Internationals bogeyed the fourth. The match never got closer than that. The U.S. picked up birdies at Nos. 6 and 7 to go 4-up and closed it out with a par on the 16th. Sutton and Lehman are both 2-1 after two days, each playing with three different partners.

The Boss of the Moss caught his stride. The Americans birdied a pair of holes on the front to open a 2-up lead, then went to 3-up with a birdie at the 10th. They closed it with a birdie at 12 and a par at 13. Maruyama's undefeated streak at the Presidents Cup ended at six, while Azinger and Roberts avenged morning-round losses.

The most imposing duo on the International team is now 0-3 -- and this time they were throttled. Woods and Begay, steaming after losing in the morning, came out and birdied the first two holes to go 2-up. Singh and Els then bogeyed Nos. 3 and No. 4. Woods and Begay eagled the fifth and birdied the sixth to go 6-up after six. Singh and Els made four bogeys on the front nine and were never in the match, which matched the largest alternate-shot defeat in Cup history.

Almost lost in the dust of the Americans' rout was the final match, where Weir and Price each won his second match of the day. Weir and Price took control with birdies at the third and fourth holes and added two more at the sixth and eighth to go 4-up at the turn. A birdie at the par-3 11th and another at the 12th to halve halve the hole gave them an unsurmountable lead.

The International team rode Goosen's hot putter on the front side to an easy win. He birdied the third hole to even the match, birdied the sixth hole to give the International team its first lead and put the heat on the Americans with a stellar approach on No. 8. Campbell birdied No. 8, the Americans both bogeyed the ninth, and Campbell birdied the 10th to go 4-up. Campbell eagled from off the fringe on the 15th to close out the match. Azinger birdied the second hole for a short-lived American lead.

The Americans bogeyed the second hole, and Weir birdied No. 3 to give the Internationals a 2-up lead, but the Americans got even after six thanks to birdies by Lehman at the fourth and sixth holes. But Weir, who shot 33 on the front side, hit his approach on the par-4 seventh stiff and made the putt, and Elkington followed with a birdie on No. 8. A Lehman birdie at No. 12 got the Americans back to 1-down, but Elkington birdied the par-5 14th and Weir added a birdie at the par-3 16th to close the match.

If Norman was disappointed in his play Thursday, he was ecstatic Friday morning. "I felt very good on the putting green this morning," Norman said. It showed. He had four birdies on the front side as the International team built a 4-up lead. He also had crucial putts to halve the fifth and seventh holes. Price added a birdie at the 10th and Norman sealed the match with a par putt at the 13th. Price also had four birdies. Furyk and Duval didn't win a hole.

Maruyama is still unbeaten in Presidents Cup play (6-0) as he and Franco never trailed in a tight match. The International team took the lead for good on the ninth hole with a Franco birdie. He birdied the par-3 11th to put his team 2-up, and the Internationals closed out the match with pars on the par-3 16th when Begay and Woods both made bogeys. Woods missed a 10-foot putt that could have extended the match.

Love birdied the second hole and Mickelson the fourth and fifth to give the Americans a quick 3-up lead.
