TO DYE FOR
Texas alum Greg Swindell promised the school's baseball team that if the Longhorns reached the College World Series, he would die his hair burnt orange -- or as close to it as he could. On Tuesday, Swindell's hair was sort of a blonde/orange mix. "He looks WWF-ish," a Diamondbacks official said.

News and notes: Senior 3B Chris Houser leads the Longhorns with nine game-winning RBI, including both super-regional game-winners. Hale struck out 12 in 10-0 shutout victory over Penn State that clinched CWS berth. Hale became the school's first first-round pick (14th overall pick, Baltimore) since 1996 in the June 5 amateur draft as six Longhorns were taken in the first 20 rounds. Coach Garrido, the winningest active D-I coach, won three national titles with Cal State Fullerton (1979, '84, '95), and is 20-10 all-time in the CWS.
