OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After a record breaking weekend in the circle, the Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, announced the selection of Texas pitcher Cat Osterman as the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of April 7-13.

The 6-foot-1 sophomore from Houston broke the Longhorn career shutout record by posting two shutouts against No. 18 Texas A&M and No. 4 Oklahoma. Osterman now has 28 shutouts in her career, surpassing former All-American and two-time Olympian Christa Williams at 27. Against Texas A&M, she stuck out 19, setting a personal best in a seven inning game. She allowed two hits and walked one. In front of a national viewing audience on ESPN, Osterman retired 17 batters against Oklahoma to secure the 1-0 win.

A USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year finalist, Osterman possesses a 0.38 season ERA and has struck out 313 batters in 146.1 innings while allowing 43 hits and eight earned runs. In Big 12 play, she has a 0.00 ERA in 51 innings of work and has notched 104 strikeouts while allowing 19 hits and only two unearned runs.

With two Big 12 wins, the Longhorns advanced to 32-7 overall and 8-4 in the conference. Moving up to No. 4 in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll, Texas returns to action April 16, against Baylor in Waco, Texas before heading home for senior day April 19 against Kansas.

The USA Softball National Player of the Week is designed to acknowledge outstanding athletic achievement by individuals on a weekly basis. Each recipient of the USA Softball National Player of the Week Award will receive an engraved plaque and will be national recognized for their accomplishments.
