MOBILE, Ala. -- In preparation for the 2003 Senior Bowl, ESPN.com sat down with Texas quarterback Chris Simms to get his take on everything from his time in Austin to what lies ahead as he prepares for a professional football career.
Chris Simms: There have been a lot of great moments, but my favorite would be the Nebraska game this year. We got to put up a lot of big stats and became only the second team in 75 games to win in Lincoln. It was a real exciting moment for me. 2. What three CDs are getting the most play in your stereo? Simms: I listen to Ashanti. I'm a big P. Diddy fan. Erykah Badu, if you've heard of her, has been in the CD a lot. 3. What do you think will be the biggest difference between college and pro football? Simms: I'm sure it will be the speed of the game. The players will be bigger and faster and there will be more to learn. 4. What's the best and worst part of game day? Simms: I hate pregame warmups. I hate all that. I'd rather just go play the game. Once the game starts is when the fun starts. 5. Do you think there should be a Division I-A playoff? Simms: Without question. I think the dumbest thing in American sports is that there is no playoff in Division I-A football. 6. If you could change one thing about college football, what would it be? Simms: First thing would be playoffs. But if that couldn't happen, the long layoff between the last game and the bowl game is too much -- especially for a quarterback. 7. If you had to play on the other side of the ball, what position would you want to play? Simms: Oooh, I would love to be a defensive end just one day and see what it's like to tee-off on a quarterback. 8. If you couldn't play football, what sport would you pursue? Simms: I'm a big basketball and baseball fan, but I'd have to choose hoops. I played basketball in high school. 9. What player at the Senior Bowl are you looking forward to being on the field with? Simms: A lot of guys, but most of all Carson Palmer. He's the Heisman winner and a really good guy. I look forward to working with him. 10. What's your first big purchase after signing a pro contract? Simms: A real nice car -- like everybody else, I'm sure. For more information on the 2003 Senior Bowl, go to the official site. |
