(Editor's note: Texas Tech senior forward Plenette Pierson, a former Big 12 Freshman of the Year, will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.) Feb. 17, 2003
During this game, the starting five started slowly and without very much intensity, and we were taken out of the game and other players were inserted in our place. This was not all bad for our team because it gave these players a great chance to get some minutes and work on some things as well. This will help us down the stretch. We ended up winning the game 83-38. Next was Baylor. We knew going into the Baylor game that it would be tough. We also knew that we had to get out to an early lead. We did just that at the beginning of the game. Somewhere during the game we lost that intensity and it was hard after that to get it back because Baylor had taken the lead. We fought and fought until it came down to a pair of free throws by Jia Perkins. Jia hit these clutch free throws to send it into overtime. During overtime, we simply went into panic mode and it ended up that Baylor had the upper hand. We ended up losing and unfortunately, that would have been Coach Sharp's 500th win. But don't count us out because we a going to play hard against Oklahoma this week. Just to recap the Baylor game, Jia ended up with 21 points and nine boards, Erin Grant had six points and 13 assists, and I ended up with 22 points and 12 boards. I can't wait to update you on this week's games as we play Oklahoma at home on Wednesday and at Oklahoma State on Saturday. Hopefully I will be able to tell you about all the excitement around Coach Sharp getting her 500th win. We sure hope that we have a lot of fans at our game on Wednesday to help us win and get back on the winning track and to celebrate Coach Sharp's 500th.
